What we offer

• Subsidized diagnostic testing for shelter and rescue-owned dogs, cats, and small mammals at a rate of 50% off testing fees and supplies, and free shipping labels via UPS Ground.
• Phone and email consultation services to assist veterinarians regarding test submission, result interpretation, and outbreak management. Depending on the nature of your question, this service is provided by Veterinary Support Services (VSS) consultant at the Animal Health Diagnostic Center (AHDC), or a faculty member from the Maddie’s Shelter Medicine Program.

Eligible organizations

Your shelter or rescue organization must:

• Be a brick-and-mortar organization
• Be 501(c)3 status or equivalent non-profit status, and provide relevant proof
• Have a licensed veterinarian who signs submission forms and to whom results will be transmitted. A veterinarian of record is necessary for release of diagnostic results and for communication purposes with our diagnostic consultants.
• Fall within our consultation area, covering the states listed on the right.

How does it work?

Step 1: Register your shelter or rescue organization

Register your shelter

Once your registration is verified and approved, we will send you with an account number and a pre-populated submission form withing 1-2 weeks. You will need these for the discounted rate to be applied when you submit samples.

Step 2: Create an account on the AHDC portal

Once you have received our email with your account number, create a portal account on the AHDC. It can take up to 24h for your online account to become active.

Sample submission

Sample submission instructions are located on the AHDC page. To receive the subsidized fee, please use the special shelter-specific form we sent you with your Maddie’s® Shelter Lab account number.

Free shipping labels

The link to free shipping labels will be available on the AHDC portal once your registration has been completed. You will receive a notification email when your account access is ready. You can also request free labels as a Maddie’s Shelter Lab member by contacting the AHDC at 607.253.3900.
