Saving Lancelot’s Sight

Lancelot the cat

At four months old, Lancelot, a beautiful Maine Coon, was found abandoned in the vestibule of a veterinary clinic, barely able to open his eyes.

Lancelot suffered from a painful condition called entropion: his eyelids were rolled inward and his eyelashes rubbed against his eyes, causing constant irritation and leaving his vision and quality of life at serious risk. Over time, his condition could lead to permanent blindness.

To save Lancelot’s sight and give him back a life without pain, intensive medical treatment was essential. One of our talented interns performed the delicate surgery needed to correct all four eyelids. Afterward, Lancelot was placed in a loving foster home to continue treatment for his damaged corneas and recover in comfort.

Thankfully, the surgical intervention was a success: not only did Lancelot’s eyes heal beautifully – with minimal scarring – but his vibrant, silly kitten spirit began to shine through. He quickly stole the hearts of his foster family, who knew they couldn’t let him go – and adopted him.

Lancelot’s journey from abandoned and in pain, to adopted and thriving is just one of many made possible through the Maddie’s® Shelter Medicine Program. Your support empowers our interns to gain the critical skills they need to transform lives – both human and animal – for years to come.

Because of you, Lancelot can see the world, and our future veterinarians can see what’s possible.
