Profile

Research/Clinical Interests

My research interests focus on the development of safe mechanical ventilation protocols for veterinary species, both in research and clinical settings. I also keep an interest in the study of ventilator-induced lung injury, specifically in the context of acute respiratory distress syndrome.

Education

  • 2013-2017: Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile, Chile, School of Medicine, PhD in Clinical Sciences
  • 2009-2012: University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine, Residency in Large and Small Animal Anesthesiology
  • 2008-2009: Cornell University, College of Veterinary Medicine, Anesthesia Internship
  • 2001-2007: Universidad Mayor, Santiago de Chile, MV

Biography/Professional Experience

I have been practicing anesthesia since I graduated from veterinary medicine in 2007. I received my degree in veterinary medicine from Universidad Mayor, in Santiago de Chile. After graduation I worked for a year at a local referral, small animal veterinary center, which was followed by a specialized internship in anesthesia at Cornell University. I then moved to Philadelphia to complete a residency in veterinary anesthesiology, from which I graduated in 2012, becoming an American board certified veterinary anesthesiologist the same year. After that I went back to Chile and completed a PhD where I studied the effect of extra corporeal techniques to support the lungs of pigs affected by acute respiratory failure. I then moved to the University of Montreal to work as a clinical anesthesiologist. In 2019, I took a position as a lecturer in anesthesiology at Cornell University.
