Title: Assessing Parasitic Threats to Moose in the Adirondack Region of New York
Project Amount: $8,900
Project Period: May 2016 to September 2016

DESCRIPTION (provided by applicant):

This project fulfills the sustainability goals of the Atkinson Center for a Sustainable Future by ensuring that we mitigate additional health risks to declining moose populations from parasites. Moose are a charismatic mega-herbivore. It has been hypothesized that they have been profoundly impacted by climate change and thus may be more susceptible to infection from lethal and sub-lethal parasites. We also have the opportunity to ensure that moose are excluded as an intermediate host for parasites that have considerable health and economic consequences for domestic animal and human health.
