Summer Loans & DVM New Funding Opportunities

Summer Loans for Clinical Rotations

Students enrolled in summer clinical rotations between the 3rd and 4th year are not charged tuition. However, they may request summer loans to cover living expenses.

The maximum loan amount for this year is $16,354

How Summer Loans Are Processed

Summer loans are awarded based on a student’s remaining federal loan eligibility:

Graduate PLUS Loan

Students who have already borrowed the full Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan amount must use the Graduate PLUS Loan to cover remaining summer expenses. Graduate PLUS Loans must be requested at studentaid.gov and cannot be originated using the summer loan request form.

If you have already reached the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan limit, do not complete the Summer Loan Request Form. Apply for a Graduate PLUS Loan instead.

Summer loans are processed as Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans if students have not borrowed the annual maximum in the current academic year:

  • Continuing Students (Class of 2027, 2028, 2029), an annual maximum of $40,500
  • New Students (Class of 2030 and beyond), an annual maximum of $50,000
