Cornell RED Veterinary Scholars Program

Overview

The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine is committed to Reducing Educational Debt and enabling graduate financial independence. The college is addressing this priority with a three-pronged approach: (1) provide individualized financial management and loan counseling; (2) integrate learning opportunities for business and entrepreneurship skill development into curricular offerings; and (3) increase funding for scholarship support.

The Cornell RED Veterinary Scholars Program has been created to provide extraordinary scholarship support to financial aid recipients who are rising third-year D.V.M. students. Beginning in the spring of 2021, two (2) RED Scholars will be selected. Awardees/recipients will receive tuition-free third- and fourth-years of their D.V.M. education at the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine.

Student Eligibility

In addition to the traditional selection criteria of academic excellence and financial need, awardees will have unique qualities, experiences and future goals. Applicants must possess a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher at the time of application, and must maintain this standard throughout the duration of their third- and fourth-years.

In addition, scholarship recipients will serve as ambassadors for the college and the university; be a spokesperson for the RED Scholarship Program; attend occasional donor functions with college leadership; and permit the use of their name, photograph and supporting story content in college and university platforms (social, web, print) that promote the Cornell RED Veterinary Scholars Program.

To be eligible for consideration as a Cornell RED Veterinary Scholar, please respond to the following prompt in essay format, with 250 words or fewer. Essays will be evaluated by the College Scholarship Review Committee:

Imagine you are writing to the donor who has made the RED Scholarship Program possible through their generous philanthropic contributions to the college. Share specifically:

1) What life experiences have shaped who you are today and what challenges you have overcome in achieving your veterinary education

-OR-

2) An accomplishment that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself or others
