Embark Raises $4.5M to Expand Their Best in Breed Dog DNA Testing Service

Embark Veterinary Inc., founded by assistant professor in biomedical sciences Adam Boyko and his brother Ryan, recently raised $4.5 million in funding to expand their canine genetic testing suite for pet parents, breeders, and veterinarians. The new round brings Embark’s total funding to $6.5 million since the company’s inception two years ago.

In the course of their quest to understand the domestic dog, the brothers have traveled the globe, fetching thousands of saliva DNA samples from pups and have discovered many of the genetic markers that make every breed and every individual dog unique. Adam Boyko's lab has also uncovered the genetic basis for many dog diseases and traits.

Partnering with Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine and Spencer Wells, a pioneer in consumer genetics, they founded Embark to bring cutting-edge science and insights directly to pet owners via their phone and browser.

The new funding will allow Embark to further provide more tools that allow breeders to take advantage of the latest genetic advances to breed the companions of tomorrow. Additionally, today Embark announced that they have relocated their pet-friendly headquarters to the Boston area, the home of digital health and biotech innovation.
