Very interesting to hear about the course of infection in such detail. The new format worked very well.
Talk of bats being hosts to so many viruses reminded me of hearing a ‘snippet’ on a somewhat lighter weight science channel yesterday, to inform me that bats, supposedly, have no gut microbiome, and it may be because, they need so much energy to fly, that food isn’t in the gut long enough to breed resident communities, because it has to be ditched fast to save weight!
This sounds a bit far fetched to me, but, if true, might the relative lack of bacteria be conducive in some way to the harbouring of unusual viruses?
