Video feature: Cornell Ruffian Equine Specialists overview

The Cornell Ruffian Equine Specialists (CRES), a full service, 24-7 referral hospital located directly across the street from the Belmont race track, provides a full suite of services for the Thoroughbred population and other regional equine athletes and companions.

CRES clinicians are board-certified Cornell faculty, bringing crucial expertise in the wide range of procedures offered--including orthopedic surgery, arthroscopy and more. State-of-the-art facilities and equipment enable sophisticated scans and diagnostics, including the ability to evaluate airways at full racing speed via an equine treadmill.

The hospital also drives life-saving clinical research to understand and prevent catastrophic breakdowns in race horses, funded by the Harry M. Zweig foundation.

"We have the entire aspect of Cornell University at our disposal," says Dr. John Pigott, clinical director of CRES. "It's a real cutting-edge time; it's extremely exciting, and it's for the ultimate goal of bettering and furthering horse safety."
