What to do when your horse has a heart murmur

To celebrate National Hearth Month, we’re revisiting a favorite episode of Cornell’s Equine Seminar Series with Dr. Katharyn Mitchell, assistant professor of large animal medicine, entitled, “Help! My vet heard a heart murmur: What does that mean?”

In this talk, Mitchell gives audiences an overview of a healthy equine heart’s function and physiology, and then goes on to explain what causes these arrhythmias, or murmurs. She also explains what veterinarians look for when assessing a horse for this condition, the different types of arrhythmias, their causes and potential treatments.
