Faculty, staff win SUNY Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence

Nineteen faculty and professional staff members in Cornell’s four state contract colleges have been selected for the 2022-23 State University of New York (SUNY) Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence. This year, all nominees put forth by Cornell won awards.

The honor recognizes faculty and staff at SUNY colleges who demonstrate a commitment to intellectual vibrancy, advancing the boundaries of knowledge, providing the highest quality of instruction and serving the public good.

Honorees for teaching are:

  • Emily Gier ’91, associate professor of practice, Division of Nutritional Sciences, College of Human Ecology (CHE);
  • Benjamin Rissing, associate professor of organizational behavior, School of Industrial and Labor Relations (ILR);
  • Amelia Safi, M.S. ’06, professor of practice, Department of Public and Ecosystem Health, College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM).
  • Mark Sarvary, Ph.D. ’06, senior lecturer, Department of Neurobiology and Behavior, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS); and
  • Thomas Silva, senior lecturer, School of Integrative Plant Science Plant Biology Section (CALS).

Honorees for scholarship and creative activities are:

  • Dina Bishara, assistant professor, International and Comparative Labor, ILR;
  • Julia Finkelstein, associate professor of epidemiology and nutrition, Division of Nutritional Science, CHE;
  • Julie Goddard ’99, Ph.D. ’08, professor of biomaterials and biointerface, Departments of Food Science, CALS; and
  • Gerlinde Van de Walle, associate professor, Department of Microbiology and Immunology, CVM.

Honorees for professional service are:

  • Sandy Dhimitri, director of academic human resources, CHE;
  • Kevin Lyon, administrative manager in molecular medicine, CVM; and
  • Andrea Poag, director of student services and advising, CALS.

Honorees for faculty service are:

  • Dr. Diego Diel, associate professor of population medicine and diagnostic sciences, CVM;
  • Lisa Nishii, professor of human resource studies, ILR and vice provost for undergraduate education;
  • Dawn Schrader, associate professor of communication, CALS; and
  • Nancy Wells, M.S. ’94, professor of human centered design, CHE.

Honorees for classified service are:

  • Catherine Ervay, accounting supervisor, Molecular Biology and Genetics, CALS;
  • Karen Steffy, graduate field assistant, Human Centered Design, CHE; and
  • Theresa Woodhouse, executive assistant, Yang-Tan Institute, ILR.
