FCoV-23 Genomic Surveillance Core

Principal Investigator: Laura Goodman

Baker Institute for Animal Health
Sponsor: Morris Animal Foundation
Grant Number: D25FE-713
Title: FCoV-23 Genomic Surveillance Core
Project Amount: $100,000
Project Period: September 2024 to August 2025

DESCRIPTION (provided by applicant):

This core will provide a genomic and bioinformatic resource for rapid response to FCoV-23. In the first year, this core will develop and implement standardized protocols to support the overall FCoV-23 Center of Excellence and external researchers by sequencing full spike genes and genomes of clinical samples (feces, blood, saliva, and ascites). We will also standardize a scat screening protocol for feral cat monitoring. We will work in close association with investigators sampling FCoV-23 infected cats, including those on anti-viral drugs. To facilitate genomic data sharing in an accessible way, the core will construct a dedicated Nextstrain build for community-wide analysis of FCoV-23 genomic data as it becomes available.
