Research Interest

I am a large animal veterinary scientist with a background in large animal medicine, herd health management, veterinary preventive medicine, and epidemiology. The focus of my current research is to further our understanding of the milk harvesting process. In this applied program, I aim to support science-based development and on-farm implementation of innovative machine technologies and milking routines. This allows producers to harvest milk from dairy cows as efficiently as possible while assuring optimized teat and udder health of these agriculturally important animals.

In addition, my program focuses on epidemiological studies that deliver data used by producers to improve profitability and sustainability. These studies approach practical questions posed by clients of Cornell University's Quality Milk Production Services, key stakeholders, as well as those from the industry sector. The methods to address these questions include intensive controlled research studies on campus, as well as large field studies in collaboration with commercial dairy farms.
