“Combating Multidrug-Resistant Superbugs by Targeting the Host-Pathogen Interaction”

Abstract:

Antibiotic resistance presents an ever increasing challenge to the public health with a dearth of new drugs in the development pipeline. A single-minded focus on direct antimicrobial activities overlooks the fact that significant infections are really a disease of the host-pathogen interaction. Indeed, before the patient has even seen a doctor, their infection is already being treated by multiple antimicrobials - namely the cellular and molecular components of the innate...

In Dr.  Mandi de Mestre's talk,"Is there anything I can do to prevent pregnancy loss in my mare?" she will discuss the possible reasons why a mare suffers pregnancy loss, including which ones are the most commonly found in clinical cases of pregnancy loss and what you should be looking out for. She will highlight new findings on novel genetic reasons a pregnancy might fail and how such cases can be identified. The talk will end with how we can use all this information in the management of mares to avoid or minimize the impact of pregnancy loss on mare fertility.
