New Equine Fever of Unknown Origin PCR Panel
The AHDC is now offering a new Equine Fever of Unknown Origin PCR Panel for a special fee of $160 to test for the nine most often requested infectious causes of fever of unknown origin in the horse.
Tests Included in the PCR Panel
- Equine herpesvirus 1 and 4 PCRs
- Equine adenovirus 1 and 2 PCRs
- Equine rhinitis virus A and B PCRs
- Influenza A virus (matrix) PCR
- Equine arteritis virus PCR
- Streptococcus equi PCR
- Anaplasma phagocytophilum PCR
- Potomac Horse Fever (Neorickettsia risticii) PCR
- Beta Coronavirus (Equine Enteric Coronavirus) PCR
Three different specimens (respiratory sample, enteric sample, EDTA whole blood) are required to run this panel:

*Submit swabs in virus transport media OR in sterile vial with 2-3 drops sterile saline, (bacterial gel transport media is not appropriate for PCR).
Normal turnaround time is 2-3 days. When expedited testing is required, a single STAT fee of $70 is applied and covers STAT priority testing of all PCR assays on this panel.
