Build your future career in reproductive medicine
Cornell’s MS-FTRM combines 4 months of rigorous academic training, 18 months of mentored research, and a summer externship to prepare you for a career in human and animal reproductive health. From the biology of eggs and sperm to menopause, pregnancy, reproductive disease, and animal conservation, turn your curiosity into research that matters!
Program at a glance
- A full-time, research-based program spanning 21 months, covering four semesters and one summer.
- A minimum of 64 credits, including 42 credits of research, to graduate.
- Hosted by the Department of Biomedical and Translational Sciences in Cornell’s College of Veterinary Medicine, with the Cornell Reproductive Sciences Center (CoRe).
- The MS-FTRM is a research degree and does not lead to professional licensure.
Advance the science of reproduction
- Complete the first semester in Ithaca. Subsequently, research may be based in Ithaca or at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City, depending on the project and mentor availability.
- Choose between three academic tracks:
- Human reproduction — Investigate reproductive health and disease across the lifespan.
- Animal reproduction — Connect reproductive science with animal health, agriculture, and conservation.
- Fundamental discovery science — Uncover the molecular mechanisms that make reproduction possible.
- Develop an original research project, learn advanced techniques and meet scientists, clinicians, entrepreneurs and leaders in reproductive health through CoRe.
How is this master's program different?
Academic training through a comparative lens
Training in the foundation courses utilizes established knowledge and breakthrough research from humans and various model organisms, such as cattle, horses, mice, zebrafish, drosophila, and C. elegans, to give students a perspective on fundamental and translational knowledge gained in all reproductive science research.
Consistent collaboration with others in the field
Rather than stay within their research area, students will consistently be interacting with other students, faculty, and visiting scientists across the wide breadth of research within the field of reproductive medicine at Cornell and Weill Cornell Medicine.
Built-in networking and career building
Students will build their professional network through multi-institutional research symposia, international conferences, and lunches with CoRe seminar speakers. They will also complete an externship with career professionals in their area of choice within the field of reproductive medicine.
