What does the cost to the participant cover?

  • Tuition – this helps cover the cost of bringing expert speakers from all over the country, classroom activities, and laboratories.
  • Housing – dorm style housing in a co-ed fraternity house is offered during SDI. Most students share a room.
  • Meals – the house chef will prepare 4 hot dinners (Monday – Thursday). There will also be access to cold cuts/sandwich type things for for packing lunch, and bagels/cereal and MILK for breakfast. We do our best to accommodate special dietary needs/restrictions, just let us know.

How much does SDI cost?

The true cost of SDI is about $6,500 per participant, however, thanks to grants, donations, and collaboration from various people and organizations, the current cost to the participant is $2,900.

How do I pay?

SDI has a secure payment website that will allow you to pay online via credit card. If other payment methods are needed, please don't hesitate to reach out! More details on how to pay will be available with your welcome packet.

How far away is housing from the institute?

It is a quick 5-minute drive through campus or 15 minute bike ride.

What about parking?

We encourage carpooling, but there is available parking both at the house and at the institute.

What about holidays and weekends, what are the obligations?

Traditionally we have only had 1 weekend lab, but this may change.
