Internship in Shelter Medicine

This rigorous one-year academic specialty internship helps ambitious graduates hone essential skills in shelter medical and surgical practice.

Embedded in the Tompkins County SPCA but supported by Cornell University and board-certified shelter faculty mentors, trainees learn HQHVS/N and advanced shelter surgery, manage individual animal and population cases, create protocols for animal populations, manage outbreaks, learn forensics and study design, present CE, and participate in consultations. Rotations are planned throughout the year in Cornell CVM services such as ECC, Pathology, Exotics and Wildlife, as well as outside shelters, the ASPCA, etc. Program grants provide access-to-care and travel experiences.
