What is the Summer Research Fellowship?

Each year, AQUAVET awards one (1) fellowship to an applicant who is interested in gaining experience in aquatic animal health research. The fellowship awards a stipend of $3,800 (in 2 monthly installments) to assist with room and board.

Logistics

The research project is typically affiliated with Cornell (although sometimes other research interests might be considered). Depending on the nature of the research, work may take place on Cornell campus or in other locations. 

The research project starts at the end of the AQUAVET course the student has taken. Exact timing is coordinated with the researcher in charge of the project. The research project lasts a total of 8 weeks, and often leads to a co-authorship paper.

How to apply?

Interested applicants should signal their interest by clicking the Summer Research Fellowship box in the AQUAVET I or II application form. In addition, they should submit, along with the rest of their AQUAVET application, a statement describing how the fellowship will help support their goals and include their research interests related to fish and aquatic health. The statement of research interest should not exceed 200 words. This is independent from the 250 to 400-word statement of goals and motivations that should be submitted with all AQUAVET applications. 

Students who have participated in AQUAVET in previous years and want to apply for the summer research fellowship this year should contact the AQUAVET director aquavetmail@gmail.com, adding a 200-word research interest statement to their email.
