Reproduction and women’s health research at Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine is distinguished by deeply interdisciplinary and comparative approaches that span species, systems, and scales. Our faculty leverage the naturally occurring differences across reproductive biology strategies in animals and humans to advance understanding of fertility and pregnancy.

At the same time, there are remarkable similarities in reproductive strategies and in the disorders of reproduction across animals. This is exemplified Dr. Mandi de Mestre’s work on early pregnancy loss in horses as a powerful model for human reproductive disorders. This breadth also extends to food animal production, conservation biology, and translational studies of fertility and reproductive health. Anchored by the Cornell Reproductive Sciences Center (CoRe), one of the leading centers of its kind in the country, Cornell CVM is uniquely positioned to connect fundamental discovery with real-world impact across animal and human health.

Areas of particular interest for our faculty include:

  1. Germ cell development and meiosis
  2. Gene regulation in the reproductive system
  3. Animal models of reproductive aging
  4. Immunology of pregnancy and transfer of immunity to the infant
  5. Contraception
  6. Disorders of the reproductive tract
