Conduct cutting-edge basic & translational science research and innovative teaching & mentoring to advance education and discovery in veterinary and human medicine in an inclusive community.
Areas of focus
BMS faculty contribute to education in undergraduate, graduate, and veterinary curricula and lead world-class research programs in several key areas of biomedical sciences. The primary areas of teaching are in anatomy, physiology, histology, and genome sciences. The major areas of research focus are cancer biology, reproductive sciences & health, genetics & genome function, and comparative anatomy & physiology. Research labs in the department frequently leverage mammalian models of veterinary and human disease, as well as cutting-edge methods in imaging, stem cells, and bioinformatics & computational biology. BMS labs publish frequently in the highest-impact scientific journals and many high-caliber field-specific journals, including top-notch veterinary science and education journals. BMS faculty provide leadership for many college or university-wide centers, initiatives, and focus groups, including the Center for Vertebrate Genomics (CVG), Cornell Reproductive Sciences Center (CoRe), the Comparative Cancer Biology Program (CCBP), the Cancer Metabolism Focus Group (CMFG), and the Kristy Richards Initiative for Collaborative Research Excellence. Veterinarians in the Cornell Center for Animal Resources and Education (CARE), who provide high quality animal care, housing, and research services, are appointed as adjunct faculty in BMS.
