West Nile Virus

Friday, September 15, 2017

(NY) Tompkins County: West Nile Virus was confirmed as the cause of neurologic illness in a horse based on elevated IgG and IgM antibodies detected in a serum sample collected acutely during the course of disease. This mare had marked twitching of the muzzle as well as the muscles of the neck and front legs. She was very reluctant to move and had not been vaccinated for West Nile Virus in the past several years. The horse is recovering well at this point.
